Through 138 games, the Royals have been a massive letdown, showing that the darkness will continue to loom over this once-proud franchise. Currently sitting at 42 and 96, the Royals are on pace to win a total, and 51 win nine more in the next 24 games, which would keep them out of the discussion of worst MLB Teams of all time. However, let's be honest: the Royals have no shot of only losing 17 more games this season. So let's go win by win to see how they stack up to the worst of all time. Before we start, this: No matter what, this is the worst Royals team ever. They are on pace for 51 wins, placing them five wins below the current mark for the worst, the 2005 Kansas City Royals with 56. The 2005 team has a strange soft spot in my heart due to my attending games as a kid. The following two worst is a tie for the 2004 and 2018 seasons with 58. I do not count strikes or COVID-19-shortened seasons. So, like it or not, folks, we are witnesses to history. Also, it has not been lost on me that the five worst Royals seasons have come when I've been alive. Blame me all you want, but we got a ring then. Fifty wins would not place the Royals on the list to start comparing. They would have to win only 5 five more games to tie the 2019 Tigers and 2018 Orioles with 47. Both teams were openly tanking and had no issues showing that. Winning four more games puts them with the 1945 Phillies and 1937 St. Louis Browns. Both those teams only play 151 and 150 games, respectively. Three more wins land them in a five-way tie with two different Phillies teams, The 1911 St Louis Browns and a team named the Boston Doves from 1909. It is a great company to be a part of. Two more wins, and they are tied with the 1911 Boston Rustlers at 44. One more success, and they join a long list of teams, so buckle up the 2003 Tigers, 1941 Phillies, 1939 Saint Louis Browns, 1932 Red Sox, 1928 Phillies, and the 1915 Philadelphia Athletics, all with 43. No more wins; they join the 1952 Pirates, 1942 Phillies, and 1909 Washington Senators. If they were to do so, they would lose 32 straight games, shattering the current longest losing streak held by the 1961 Phillies at 23 games. With 42 wins, only six teams have ever had fewer wins than the 2023 Kansas City Royals, none of which played 162 games. The 1962 Mets played 160 games. So yes, we are witnesses to history, none of it good or watchable, but history nonetheless. I've been Brock Gorton of B-Card Entertainment. Have a wonderful day, everybody.
